Disappearing Back Alley – Anywhere Door to the Neighbourhood is an exhibit featured in Hong Kong Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism \ Architecture 2022 “Seeds of Resilience, Re(dis)covering The City”, under the theme of diversity and inclusion. The exhibit was showcased at the North Point (East) Passenger Ferry Pier from September to November 2022.

In this exhibit, we brought forward a virtual neighbourhood experience to arouse public interest in disappearing back-alley store culture through visualisation and interactions. The exhibit houses two experiences:

  1. 1:10 AR model
  2. 1:1 full-size AR world of different 360-degree view back alleys by walking through the “Anywhere Door”

By scanning AR mark to activate the webapp or dedicated app on mobile devices, triggering “Anywhere Doors” to appear, which lead to designated virtual back-alley stores. We are collaborating with Mark Lau from Oi Kwan Barber, a back-alley store in the historic Spring Garden Street of Wan Chai to curate the exhibition contents.
